Himeville Museum

The Himeville Museum, on the main road through Himeville, is situated in the last fortified laager built in South Africa. Taken over in 1902 by the Natal Mounted Police, it became a prison until 1902, when it was closed down. The historical Society managed to take over the building in 1976, and the museum opened in 1981. It is a large complex and exhibits cover a wide field, not being focused on any period or event. It is reputed to be one of the best rural museums in South Africa. A must see!!
